You actually wouldn't unless you knew the Old West (via the USA) or watched a movie with the phrase. It is really not used often in todays world. I only wanted to know about the world and how it's used and when. Then you will surely understand. It was used in conversation, ads during the 1800's newspapers and such. I would probably call it a kind of fad of the times. Some stay around forever while others go by the wayside. A lot of saying go way back in time and still used today. Some English, Americans and of course Canadians, eh? 😆. Like a stitch in time saves 9. Not sure how many still say that but I remember it. Ones I do not know or heard come from Canada:
Loonie
Toque
Timmies
or Hang a Larry

Though now I do. Maybe I should spend some time in Ole Canada, eh? 😉

Another thing The Flintstones and Perry Mason have in common is Harvey Korman. He guest-starred in one episode of Perry Mason, and was the voice of the Great Gazoo on the Flintstones.

4/12 I'm surprised how well I did since I'm younger than both shows & I mostly know Perry Mason from Svengolie

8 out 12!
As a kid I loved The Flintstones. Because I was a “Flintsone kid” Gen X humor there.
Now, as an adult I literally cannot stand Fred!!
I hate everything about Fred. His voice, his laugh. He is as stupid as a stone.

Wake up to Mr. Mason, Go to bed with Mr. Mason. Gee MeTv, Time for a change. Never been able to watch a full episode due to the horrible overacting. I believe every episode ends with a Crazed, Blathering, Curveball, Courtroom confession. Please consider airing something watchable.
Do you go by “PMike” on IMDB? You should check out the reviews for Perry Mason on IMDB.
According to my friend who works at Nielsen Perry Mason gets high ratings day and night.

I wish they would take Perry Mason off the air and replace it with something good. They've been running Perry Mason twice a day 6 days a week for 22 years non stop. Every episode has been on over 200 times.

11/12…my score is undoubtedly due to my vast knowledge of everything Perry Mason!

"The composer who wrote the theme song for the first Rocky and Bullwinkle show (‘Rocky and his Friends’) also wrote the theme song for which show?"

"Rocky and Bullwinkle" did NOT have a theme SONG. If there are no LYRICS, it's NOT a song!

8/12 I was never a fan of the Flintstones. I hated that Betty Rubble snickering.

9/12. I used to be scared by the music to “Perry Mason” when I was a boy.
